Detroit Action’s Neighborhood Summit 2026, co-hosted by Black Convergence, is a community-powered gathering designed by and for students, families, organizers, and community leaders. From public conversations with elected officials and candidates, to interactive workshops that challenge us to grow as leaders, this summit is about building the power our communities need to win.

Our Political Convention For The Hood

As we enter a critical midterm election season, we’ll come together to strengthen our movement, deepen collaboration, and lay the foundation for long-term change. This first year of the current administration has proven to all of us that the needs of the people are not on their agenda. Instead they are finding ways to restrict civil rights, freedom of speech and expression, voting access, healthcare access, and even food benefits, with the gutting of SNAP. This administration has caused millions of people in our country, and across the world, to suffer. We created the Neighborhood Summit to remove the barriers to civic engagement and prioritize community voices over corporate interests.

Organizing Saves Lives

This year’s Neighborhood Summit, hosted at Durfee Innovation Society, is about setting the narrative on grassroots organizing ourselves, exploring what it really means to engage in co-governance with local legislators and beyond, and re-engaging our communities with the passion, strategy, and care shown by our elders. Our journey, as an organization, began with demonstrating that care for community in the soup kitchens on the lower east side of Detroit. Later, under the name Good Jobs Now, we worked to help those same people have a connection to self-sufficiency and determination through job training, skill-building workshops, and bridging the gap between our members and the state to acquire legal documents needed to apply for work.

The journey isn’t over until all of us are able to live freely, love thoroughly, and our government invests in ways that ensure our freedoms can be protected. Political convenings like the Neighborhood Summit are our opportunities to scale impact through policy enforcement and the actions that will help bring them to life. We hope to see you there!
